Welcome Home LCpl Vormwald

Wed 18 Oct, LCpl Thomas Vormwald returned home to a welcoming procession of bikes and cages, starting in Columbus, stopping for a short while at Kings Island to pick up more escort riders.

Tom is a 3rd generation Marine, his dad, was a Beruit bombing survivor. A short reception was held at the Loveland American Legion. Was a wonderful homecoming.

LMCI Members were present for the escort from Hopkins to Cuyahoga Falls Tuesday evening. The City of Cuyahoga Falls was out in force lining the escort route. The supporters stretched from Olde Route 8 & 303 to Broad Blvd., where we headed to Front Street completing the escort at the Clifford-Shoemaker funeral home.

Today members were able to place a USMC Flag at the funeral home as we have in the past for fellow Marines to sign.

Sgt. Justin Walsh

We have a fallen Marine coming home from Iraq. We expect him to arrive at Hopkins some time Tuesday (10/17/2006) for an escort to his home town of Cuyahoga Falls. When I have more details I’ll post them to the site.

The funeral for Sgt. Justin Walsh, the local Marine who died from injuries suffered while defusing a roadside bomb in Iraq, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Clifford Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St.

A funeral procession for Walsh will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m., proceed west on Broad Boulevard to Fourth Street, turn north past the high school to Oakwood Drive, turn right onto Second Street and head south to Portage Trail. It will then turn west and end at the church.

Mentor Beirut Veterans Memorial – AAR

Twelve Leathernecks attended the Veteran’s Memorial in Mentor. We broke bread at Gunny’s Hall with about 10 Beirut Veterans from all over the region. Doc Curry and his son spoke on recent military events and battles and events that made the history of the Corps what it is today. Master Chief Curry was in his dress blues with his Silver Star and Bronze Star displayed. His purple heart with devices signifying 4 awards was what really told the story of his 23+ years service with the Corps.

We had some chow with the Beirut Vets and went on a short ride to see a couple of the covered bridges in the area. Then on to homes to rake leaves etc. Beautiful day for a ride.
